WHY FLUFFYWEIGHT?

One question we often get asked is, what makes FluffyWeight special?

If you or someone you love has sensory challenges or anxiety, you know how difficult it can be. You know that a sensory meltdown is tough on the person having one, tough on caregivers, and can steal hours from an otherwise happy day. And you know that a tool that can truly effectively soothe is life-changing.

We understand this all too well. As a family with our own sensory challenges, we intentionally selected everything about FluffyWeight to create an almost magical combination of effectiveness and lovability.

Here’s a few things we did behind the scenes to make FluffyWeight special:

Sensory-Informed Product Development

From the very start of development, our protoypes were tested in the homes of kids and adults with challenges such as ADHD, autism, sensory processing, anxiety, or were generally considered highly sensitive. We modified the concept until we had a unanimous winner.

We carefully picked materials that are sensory-friendly. The outer fabric is super soft and cozy, while the interior is naturally weighted to a therapeutic level with a soft latex foam that feels more like a soothing hug.

We later tested FluffyWeight in a focus group of 10 parents, proving its effectiveness at managing anxiety, meltdowns and making bedtime routines easier. Read the results.

Equal Focus on Form and Function

Weight creates proprioceptive sensory input that, if heavy enough, stimulates the release of serotonin in the brain, reducing anxiety and creating feelings of calm and happiness. It also lowers the stress hormone, cortisol. (To be therapeutically effective, a weighted object needs to be about 8-10% of bodyweight.)

There were other therapeutically weighted stuffed animals on the market, just none that were as adorable as the many other non-therapeutic stuffed animals we already had. We made FluffyWeight to be irresistible because the more you hug it or play with it, the more effective it is.

Practical and Plastic-Free

FluffyWeight comes with an easily removable machine washable cover. It's body is sewn with reinforced stitching so it will stand up to wear and tear over time. Instead of plastic poly-pellets like most weighted objects on the market, ours is filled with 100% pure natural latex foam. Latex foam is naturally resistant to dust and mold, and will keep it's fluffy, springy texture forever.
